چکیده

This paper examines the architectural issues in building storage systems for object-oriented database management systems (OO DBMSs) and persistent languages. We survey techniques for placing small and large objects on disk and disk space management, and we present client-server architectures for OO DBMSs. We describe alternatives in making a programming language persistent and in particular, we discuss pointers and three pointer dereference mechanisms: import/export, software dereference, and hardware dereference.

Towards an Object Store

Today’s SAN architectures promise unmediated host access to storage (i.e., without going through a server). To achieve this promise, however, we must address several issues and opportunities raised by SANs, including security, scalability and management. Object storage, such as introduced by the NASD work [14], is a means of addressing these issues and opportunities. An object store raises the ...

Scalable Archival Data and Metadata Management in Object-based File Systems

Online archival capabilities like snapshots or checkpoints are fast becoming an essential component of robust storage systems. Emerging large distributed file systems are also shifting to object-based storage architectures that decouple metadata from file I/O operations. As the size of such systems scale to petabytes of storage, it is critically important that file system features continue to o...

Research on fine management and visualization of ancient architectures based on integration of 2D and 3D GIS technology

Aimed at ancient architectures which own the characteristics of huge data quantity, fine-grained and high-precise, a 3D fine management and visualization method for ancient architectures based on the integration of 2D and 3D GIS is proposed. Firstly, after analysing various data types and characters of digital ancient architectures, main problems and key technologies existing in the 2D and 3D d...

Object Storage: Scalable Bandwidth for HPC Clusters

This paper describes the Object Storage Architecture solution for cost-effective, high bandwidth storage in High Performance Computing (HPC) environments. An HPC environment requires a storage system to scale to very large sizes and performance without sacrificing cost-effectiveness nor ease of sharing and managing data. Traditional storage solutions, including disk-per-node, Storage-Area Netwo...

Spatiotemporal Data Modelling and Management: a Survey

Many data objects in the real world have attributes about location and time. Such spatiotemporal objects can be found in applications such as Geographic Information Systems (CIS), environmental data management and multimedia databases. Traditional relational database technology is not suitable for managing spatiotemporal data, which are multi-dimensional with complex structures and behaviours. ...
